There was great news from Italy this midweek as Corey Campbell took down the Scottish U20 mark for 3000m after 46 years.

The Team East Lothian athlete was racing in Italy and clocked 8:00.01 to improve on the 8:00.07 time run by Graham Williamson at Meadowbank in 1978.

Corey’s superb run was also a GB and NI qualifying standard for the World U20s in Peru later this summer.

Many congratulations to Corey, his family and coach Alister Russell as well as all at Team East Lothian involved in his development over the years.

*In Belgium, Nicole Yeargin followed up her weekend Season’s Best run in the 400m (51.32) with an outing over 300m and clocked 36.76.

That is second best on the Scottish all-time rankings outdoors for the 300m distance, with only Linsey Macdonald having run faster (36.46).

European Champs bronze medallist Megan Keith has been named Female Athlete of the Year by Scottish Student Sports.

The student body held their annual awards in Stirling this week and Olympics-bound Megan looked hot favourite in the Athlete category.

Announcing the accolade, Scottish Student Sport said: ‘Megan has enjoyed a big breakthrough year in 2023-24.

‘At age grade level, she won two European Golds, with British and European records falling along the way. In the cross country season, her 1 min 23 winning margin at the Euro Cross was more than double the Championship’s best ever.

‘After getting her first taste of senior track competition at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, this week Megan stormed to Bronze at the European Championships in Rome over the 10,000m. Later this summer she’ll make her Olympics debut.’

Congratulations to Megan, her family, coach Ross Cairns and all at Inverness Harriers and Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds.
