Neil posts World Champs standard as Scots impress at Manchester BMC

Sunday 29th May 2022

Neil Gourley came up with an excellent performance in his 1500m race at the Eugene Diamond League meet.

The Scot clocked a new PB of 3:34.85 and that is inside the standards being asked for both the World Champs with GB and NI and the Commonwealths with Team Scotland.

It also lifts Neil to sixth on the Scottish all-time list as he moves above Frank Clement.

There were tough races, however, for Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie as they finished 11th and 8th at 1500m and 800m respectively. Faith Kipyegon dominated the Women’s 1500m as Laura came home in 4:04.45 while Jemma’s time was 2:00.53.

*GB and NI Women took bronze medals at the European 10,000m Cup in France. Unfortunately, Steph Twell was a DNF on the night.

Well done to Cambuslang Harriers athlete, Moira Stewart, who competes for the Czech Republic (via her mother’s nationality). Moira clocked a PB of 32:08.96 to set a new Czech National Record.

The Manchester BMC meet promised fast times and it delivered once again with a remarkable Scottish ‘team effort’ across many races.

Here are a few (of many) highlights . . .

*Women’s 800m A race win for Jenny Selman of Fife AC at 2.03.00

*Men’s A race 1500m win for Ben MacMillan of Central AC in 3:40.59 – that’s a Commonwealth Games qualifying standard

*Women’s A race third place 1500m PB for Megan Davies at 4:15.57

*Women’s A race at 5000m second place for Morag Millar of Central AC at 15:52.82

*New 1500m PB at 3:48 PB for Corey Campbell of Team East Lothian to get well inside the 3:52 GB and NI standard for Euro U18s in Israel later this summer.

*In same way, superb run Tendai Nyabadza of Harmeny AC for 3:47.86 over 1500m and likewise inside the GB and NI standard for Euro U18s.

*Whole string of others including race wins for Tom Graham-Marr of Central AC at 5000m, Maja Thomson of Team East Lothian and Hannah Ryding of Giffnock North and Cameron Wright of Kilbarchan AAC.

Well done to athletes and coaches who made the trip to Manchester and apologies if we have missed a significant performance.
