British Athletics website team announcement

Scottish ultra runner Meryl Cooper will head to Thailand later this year to compete for GB and NI.

Meryl is among six athletes named by British Athletics to compete in the 80km trail race at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand between the 11-14 November 2021.

It follows on from recent strong performances including her win in the British Ultra Trail Champs within the Lakeland Trails 100k event earlier this month.

Meryl, who is coached by Paul Tierney, and Jo Meek filled the first two spots at the trials in the women’s event, so they confirm their place on the team. Both have competed at past trail championships with Meek finishing seventh in 2016.

Further selections for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships will be announced in the coming months. See the selection policy for more details.

Many congratulations to Meryl, her coach and her family and support team.
