Medal moment in Birmingham: Strong Nicole run helps GB and NI to Women’s 4x400m Relay silvers

Nicole Yeargin ran a strong third leg to help GB and NI to silver medals in the Women’s 4x400m Relay final.
The Alexander Stadium crowd roared their appreciation as the British quartet fought hard to finish second to the Netherlands in the penultimate race of the European Champs.
Nicole’s medal moment in Birmingham means at least one Scottish athlete has been on the podium in 13 out of the last 14 major champs: a fantastic record which now spans four years.
The Pitreavie AAC athlete, whose mum hails from Dunfermline, ran a strong third leg after Yemi Mary John had handed over to Lina Nielsen.
Nicole then passed the baton to hurdles medallist Emily Newnham who made a great effort of chasing Dutch icon Femke Broeders-Ball. Nicole split was 49.9 adn Emily at 49.58.
The Netherlands clocked 3:21.10 for the gold medals with GB and NI at 3:21.68 . Taking the bronze medals were Italy at 3:23.57.

Earlier in the day, Weynay Ghebresilasie lined up in the Men’s Marathon for an early morning run around the streets of Birmingham.
Unfortunately, the Shettleston Harriers athlete was to be a DNF on the results after he dropped out of the race after 15k.
We hope any potential injury or illness for Weynay is not too serious.
