Zara Redmond and Phoebe Anderson have claimed places in the British team for the Euro Cross Champs in Portugal.
The annual British Cross Challenge event in Liverpool always poses significant questions and a number of Scots rose to the occasion with coveted top ten places.
With Megan Keith seeking selection, there should be at least three Scots in the GB and Ni team for the Euro event in Lagoa.
Kilbarchan AAC teenager Zara will be one of those as she took an automatic selection place at U20 level with a strong finish in the Sefton Park mud.
Zara was fifth in the race but fourth at U20 and inside the top five guaranteed their place for Portugal.
‘I can’t believe I have made the team but it has happened and it was a huge goal for this winter,’ she said, with coach Sarah Dempsey thrilled with the performance as she greeted Zara at the finish.
‘I made up a place or two on the closing stages and then held on over the last stretch to the finish. I am so happy with the outcome.’

Phoebe became eligible for Scotland this year via her parents and proud mum Fiona welcomed her home at the finish.
‘It was a thrill to wear the Scotland vest at Liverpool because that means so much to my family,’ said Phoebe.
Fourth place in the Senior race was enough for an America-based athlete who won the U23 Euro Cross in GB and NI colours last year.
Other Scots in Senior Women: 16 Grace Molloy; 20 Nancy Scott (Scotland-based); 22 Eloise Walker; 26 Alice Goodall; 40 Kirsty Walker; 43 Amy Frankland; 47: Cat Gillen; 49 Grace Whelan.
Logan Rees was our top Scot in the Senior men’s race.
Remarkably, nine men finished in the top 30 on a fine display of depth by our Scottish athletes.
The Fife AC athlete was sixth and should be in the discussion for the two discretionary places for the Euro Cross. Jamie Crowe of Central AC led home his club with tenth place (as they sought Euro Clubs Cross Country Champs qualification).
Other Scots: 16 Peter Molloy; 18 Hamish Hickey; 19 Andy Butchart; 20 Aidan Thompson; 24: Angus McMillan; 26 Scott Stirling; 29 Ben Potrykus.
It was tough for our U23 athletes but in the Men’s race there were top ten finishes for two athletes.
Finlay Ross-Davie was at seven and Angus Smith was tenth.
Other Scots: 20 Jack Patton; 28 Andrew McGill; 31 Sam Griffin
U23 Women: 15 Anya MacLean; 28: Anna Hedley; 33 Grace Tindall; 41Kirsty Purcell; 42 Caitlin Purcell.
