The track and field community heads back to Grangemouth this weekend for the second part of a national championship August double-header.
And it should be a special occasion over Saturday and Sunday as we host the eagerly-awaited Eric Liddell Senior and U17 Champs.
It is the 131st staging of the Senior Champs and the name this year marks the centenary of Eric Liddell‘s famous gold medal in the 1924 Olympics in Paris.
We will return to the 400m this weekend further down this story but for the moment we want to say once again: Thanks for your Suport of a Scottish National Championship events once again.
The event entries and the athlete numbers entered for this weekend are very strong indeed – like the Age Groups last weekend.
We’ve received 1145 event entries for the Seniors and U17s with no fewer than 776 athlete names on the start-lists. Brilliant! The 616 event entries is the largest ever U17 Champs entry.

There are a number of aspects which simply add to the interest this weekend:
*Live Stream of Vinco Sport (see more below)
*Prize-pot of combined £3000 for Para athletes and maintstream to be shared equally by those who achieve the standards (see document on event section page)
*Olympian Nick Percy will swap Paris for Grangemouth and has sights set on his own Scottish Native Record in the discus. Rio Olympian Chris Bennett is in the men’s hammer and Tokyo Olympian Zoey Clark is entered for 100m, 200m and 400m
*Special Eric Liddell 100 commemorative medals at 400m events across Seniors, U17s and Frame Running.
The Women’s 400m entry looks interesting and includes Zoey Clark, Seren Bundy-Davies, Jill Cherry, Georgina Adam, Erin Wallace and Kelsey Stewart.
*Men’s Long Jump was really exciting in 2023 as Alessandro Schenini jumped a Native Record. The 2024 start-lists looks good and the event at 1.30pm on Sunday could be captivating.
*World Para Champs gold medallist in 2023 over 1500m, Ben Sandilands is en route to the Paralympics in Paris and is entered for the 800m and 1500m along with key names like Ben Potrykus and Cameron Boyek.
*Sarah Calvert was a double middle distance gold medallist last year and is entered again.

Also like last weekend, we again welcome Vinco Sport as our broadcast partners for the Eric Liddell Senior and U17 Champs. That means a live stream (on Vinco’s subscription channel) and highlights on our YouTube channel.
We are also planning a series of action clips on our social media platforms – across Instagram, Twitter and YouTube and these have been hugely popular from the Age Groups last weekend.

We would urge coaches and spectators who plan to attend Grangemouth to pay online and register in advance.
This saves queues on the day and is cheaper. The admission fees help us cover the costs of facility hire and enable us to stage National Championship events.
It also helps us in terms of the entry fee charged for athletes.
Spectators:
£3 in advance; £4 on day (card only)
U16s go free
Coaches:
FREE in advance for Scottish Athletics Coach Members; £4 on day (card only)
