scottishathletics are delighted to announce that recently appointed Director of Coaching, Rodger Harkins, and Head of Power at British Athletics, Stephen Maguire, will present at the Club Leaders Conference on Saturday 22 November.
It is taking place at Hampden earlier on the same day – from 9.30am to 4.45pm – as the scottishathletics Annual Awards Dinner.
Harkins and Maguire will co-deliver a session covering topics such as creating talent environments within clubs, athlete support, coach development and coaching structures with a view to helping clubs support the development of athletes towards international level.
Our Club Leaders Conference is geared for club folk keen to build their knowledge on various aspects of the sport and includes presentations about club governance and legal issues, effective management, to pay or not to pay coaches and social media help and advice.
Harkins and Maguire have now been added to the list of speakers and will present on the issue of ‘Roots for Excellence’.
Rodger has been heavily involved with athletics in Scotland for decades, initially as a former international triple-jumper and national champion (indoors and out) and 400m hurdler in his own right before he turned to coaching.
Under his guidance, Lee McConnell, who retired earlier this year, won Commonwealth medals at both 400m and 400m hurdles and competed at three Olympic Games.
Stephen is the former Director of Coaching at scottishathletics and recently appointed Head of Power at British Athletics.
He guided Team Scotland to the best medal performance since 1994 in track and field at Glasgow 2014 as well as supporting a number of the current crop of athletes to world level during his period in Scotland.
