Jake takes down British Record for 2000m Indoors as Scots start well

There is a huge year ahead for our top athletes – and 2026 is off to a flying start.

Jake Wightman landed a new British Record at the New Balance Grand Prix meet in Boston.

Racing in the 2000m, Jake clocked a national indoor record of 4:53.79. The Edinburgh AC athlete, already selected for the Commonwealth Games, finished fourth in the same race where Hobbs Kessler set a new world best of 4:48.49

Nicole Yeargin was an event winner in Boston.

The Pitreavie AAC athlete ran 52.63 over 400m, finishing just ahead of USA’s Anna Hall in 52.77. It was Nicole’s fastest time ran indoors since 2023. Sarah Calvert was at 4:12.16 over 1500m.

Elsewhere in Boston,  Eloise  Walker posted a terrific solo run win over 3000m. Eloise clocked 8:42.90 to make a great start to 2026 – and move to fourth on the all-time list.

In New York, Giffnock North Ac athlete Duncan Robinson became the latest Scot to break the four minute mile barrier.

Duncan won the race in 3:58.24 and Fife AC’s Reiss Marshall was sixth in 4:02.86.

Rebecca Grieve clocked 37.11 over 300m for second best all-time for the distance..
