Record-breaker! Jake lands new Scottish 1000m mark just behind World Record run in Monaco

Friday 10th July 2026

Jake Wightman broke his own Scottish Record for 1000m as the World record fell in Monaco.

Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the Olympic champion over 800m, took down the global mark for 1000m with 2:11.83.

And the Scot was just behind him in second at 2:12.77 for a new Personal Best and Scottish Record – Jake had run 2:13.88 at the same venue four years ago.

The 2022 World Champion over 1500m is looking in great shape ahead of the Commonwealth Games where he is selected for the mile.

Jake’s run takes him above Steve Cram on the British all-time list with only Seb Coe quicker.
