Jacob Adkin made a successful return to the Mountain Running World Cup scene in France over the weekend.

The Scot who won the European title earlier in his career finished an excellent third in the historic alpine city of Briancon in France on Saturday.

Jacob’s sister Scout Adkin was in action, too, as she makes a serious challenge for the overall title in the Women’s division. Scout was second in Saturday’s uphill race and then fifth in Sunday’s second race.

Stages nine and ten of the 2025 WMRA Mountain Running World Cup were held at Briancon, the highest city in France and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Briançon provided a stunning yet brutal backdrop for the Vauban Mountain and Trail Uphill Race — a 5.9 km course climbing 1,121 vertical meters from the base of the Prorel cable car to just above the Chapelle de Notre-Dame des Neiges.

The Scottish cohort performed well on Saturday with Thomas Hilton the top Junior home and Kirsty Dickson in sixth place.

Come Sunday’s classic up-and-down event, over 14k and with 994m of ascent, Jacob was eighth, Thomas 22nd, Ross Gollan 24th and Rory Abernethy 25th.
