Junior Home International trials and Scotland selection

Cademuir Rollercoaster played host to the Junior Home International trials where U20 and U17 athletes ran over the 6km and 274m course at the back of Peebles in the stifling heat on 13 August.

Most of the field coped well in the hot conditions but a few runners suffered in the heat.

The U20 men were packed tightly from the gun, climbing the first hill together. Struan Bennet (Fife AC) ran a well-paced race to take the win finish ahead of Sam Griffin (Aberdeen).

The first two in each category gained automatic selection. Angus Wright (Team East Lothian) was the third man home.

In the U17 Thomas Hilton (Moorfoot Runners) led from the gun and ran strongly to finish in fourth overall with Rowan Taylor (Lasswade) not far behind.

Isla Hedley (Fife), fresh from the European Off-Road Running Championship,led the field home to finish first U20 female with Georgia Ledingham home in second.

Isla Patterson (Gala) had a brilliant run in the heat, finishing third overall and securing her place in the U17 team with her performance.

The JHI is on Saturday 3 September in Ambleside, on the same course where Isla Hedley and Fraser Gilmour won the U18 Home Nations Cup in 2021.
