British Athletics team selection

British Athletics have named a strong U20 selection for the Loughborough International this weekend.

And we’re delighted to share in the excitement for five young Scots and their coaches and clubs after landing the chance to wear the GB and NI vest.

The GB and NI U20 team will take on Scotland, England, Wales, Loughborough Uni and a National Athletics League Select in Sunday’s match at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.

The Scottish quintet selected are as follows:

400m Hurdles and 4x400m: Rachel Callan (Giffnock North AC) Jackie Alexander and Anne Stewart

Shot Put: Teddy Tchoudja (Shettleston Harriers) John Scott

4x100m: Alyson Bell (Giffnock North AC) Billy Glasgow

4x400m: Sofia Vidak (Falkirk Victoria Harriers/Glasgow School of Sport) Norrie Hay

4x400m: Brodie Young (Airdrie Harriers) James McMenemy

We send our warm congratulations to the athletes, their families and coaches and the clubs involved in their development over a number of years.

‘Loughborough is always an exciting meeting, early in the calendar when we can see how athletes are progressing for the season ahead,’ said Team Leader, Trevor Painter.

‘Many of these athletes have not represented GB and NI before and it’s always an enjoyable phone-call to make, when you deliver the good news.

‘I look forward to seeing who will rise to the challenge and throw their hat into the ring as we look forward to selecting a team for the World Juniors in Cali (Colombia) later this summer.’

America-based Scot Nicole Yeargin has been over to Europe in the past few days and has posted notable performances in France.

After a 51.79m run at 400m last weekend, Nicole then raced again on Tueaday and clocked a 200m PB at 23.09 which took her to third on the Scottish Women’s all-time list.

Only Beth Dobbin (22.50) and Sandra Whittaker (22.98) have broken then 23 seconds barrier for 200m outdoors. Beth clocked 23.06 in the Doha Diamond League on Friday.
