British Athletics website team announcement

Five Scots will head to the European Team Championships with British Athletics.

It’s a great moment for each of the athletes as individuals but also for Scottish sprinting.

Four sprinters are picked with high jumper Will Grimsey also in the selection for the European team event being held in Silesia, Poland, on June 23-25.

Three of the sprinters – Adam Clayton, Brodie Young and Alyson Bell win their first Senior GB and NI vests alongside Carys McAulay, who competed at the European Indoors earlier this year.

Scotland international Will lands his second experience in a British vest at this event after a recent 2.20m leap took him top of the UK rankings.

GB and NI will go up against 15 other countries across the three days of competition and UK Athletics has selected a full team with the aim of achieving the highest team placing possible at this Championships, whilst providing development opportunities for a number of athletes.

Technical Director at UK Athletics, Stephen Maguire said: ‘The European Team Championships are a great opportunity to provide athletes with Championship experience across all the events.

‘We have 11 debutants in the team and they will learn a lot from competing at this level and being around this high-level competition environment.

‘We also have several experienced Championship performers who have this event in their plan for the year, so it is an important milestone in their season.

‘As for the relay athletes, this opportunity is invaluable to all team members. I look forward to seeing how the team perform in Silesia later this month.’
