Andy Douglas and Anna Macfadyen are heading to the European Mountain Running Champs later this summer – after winning British titles at the weekend.

Success on Sunday in the British Champs and trials races on Skiddaw at Keswick saw Douglas and Macfadyen each earn automatic selection for the event in Kamnik, Slovenia, on July 8.

Douglas won the Senior Men’s title from (former Aberdeen AAC athlete) Chris Smith as the Inverclyde AC athlete, who is coached by Sophie Dunnett, again confirmed his status as GB and NI’s No 1 men’s hill runner at the moment.

And Forres Harriers athlete Anna, who represented GB and NI at the World Cross earlier this year, took a superb win in the Junior Women’s trials race.

Their selections for Slovenia will be rubber-stamped by British Athletics in due course and congratulations to both athletes and their families and coaches from all at scottishathletics.

Meanwhile, Scotland hill running teams have been named for the Senior Home International later this month.

The event is in Sedbergh in England on Sunday 18 June and always presents a strong test for our athletes.
Congratulations to all those selected and their families and coaches.

There is a first Scotland vest for Miranda Grant and commiserations to Ross Gollan, who was in line for a first Senior Scotland vest before being injured.
