British Athletics website team announcement
The Euro Cross will be centre stage this weekend with the action taking place in Lagoa in Portugal.
And excitement is rising for our three-strong Scottish cohort in the Novuna GB and NI team headed for the continent.
Megan Keith, Phoebe Anderson and Zara Redmond all win coveted GB and NI vests in Sunday’s event.
It is a proud moment for all three and congratulations to the athletes on their selection for GB and NI and to their parents, coaches and clubs involved in their developments over a number of years.
Megan and Phoebe head to Lagoa as part of a really strong British team for the Senior Women’s event – and with individual success in this event against their names.
Phoebe (prior to her Scottish eligibility being confirmed) won the Women’s U23 race at last year’s event.
Megan won in that age group the year before, in Brussels in 2023, to add to a previous U23 silver and gold in the U20 race in Dublin. It is fair to say the Inverness Harriers athlete has a strong Euro Cross record.
Recent runs in two European XC races bode well and, in a further boost, Megan’s coach Ross Cairns was named our Scottish Performance Coach of the Year at the 4J Annual Awards in Glasgow on November 29.
Zara placed fourth among the U20 Women in the trial race at Liverpool last weekend with the top five placed athletes assured of selection.
Scottish selections (with coach and club):
Senior Women
Phoebe Anderson (Laurie Henes, Herne Hill)
Megan Keith (Ross Cairns, Inverness)
U20 Women
Zara Redmond (Sarah Dempsey, Kilbarchan AAC)
Megan wins U23 Women’s gold at Euro Cross (December 2023)
