Richard Kilty was a welcome visitor to the 2016 Senior Champs in Glasgow
The 2017 Indoor Season is coming up fast – and key events are taking place in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow next month!
January 4 sees the sold out Scottish 3000m Champs at the Glasgow Athletics Association miler Meet event and the National Open on Saturday 14 January is also filling up.
So want to highlight on this occasion the Scottish Senior Champs and U17 Champs which take place together at the Emirates on Saturday 28 January.
We piloted this format during the 2016 Indoor Season with a successful day and then repeated the merged U17 and Senior programme at Grangemouth for the outdoor National Champs.
It is a format which we feel works well – with a big thank-you to athletes, coaches and clubs who support these events and of course our hard-working band of scottishathletics Officials who are gearing up for a busy Indoor Season.
In terms of the Seniors, the January 28 event is the first opportunity in 2017 to post performances which would meet the selection criteria for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast 2018.
It really would be fantastic for the sport – and for those up-and-coming U17 athletes – to share the Emirates Arena with some of Scotland’s very best track and field exponents.

Action from the U17 Champs in 2016
For the U17 athletes, there are national championship medals up for grabs as well as the chance to post PB performances indoors. The event is also timed shortly before the Scottish Schools track and field Indoor Champs
In certain events, there is also the opportunity for athletes to chase qualifying performances for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas next summer. The CYG is an U18 event.
