Eilish McColgan will take part in the Great Scottish Run on Sunday 2 October in Glasgow.
The 31-year-old Scot has had an extraordinary year that saw her set a new British record over 5km on the roads and beat Paula Radcliffe’s 21-year-old British half marathon record.
Eilish took the long-standing European and UK 10km record at the Great Manchester Run and won Commonwealth gold and silver for Team Scotland in Birmingham.
Eilish continued her outstanding season securing two additional medals at the European Championships in Munich, with a silver in the 10,000m and bronze for the 5000m.
These incredible achievements were recognised last weekend when she was invited to be the official honorary starter at the Great North Run, setting 60,000 runners on their way from Newcastle to South Shields in the world’s biggest half marathon.
‘It’s been a great year for me, culminating in my medals on the track, the highlight was my Commonwealth Games victory, roared on by the crowd,’ said Eilish.
‘After postponing my marathon debut until next year and being involved in last weekend’s Great North Run, I feel I have one more race left in me this season.
‘I can think of no better place to do that than to come home and take to the streets of Glasgow over 10km on 2 October at the Great Scottish Run.’
The event will also feature our Scottish Half Marathon Champs as part of the Tru Wealth Road Race series.
