Power of People: Delegates relish learning at our National Conference

David Fallon is our Head of Development and he has been speaking about a number of on-going projects with our clubs.

Andrew Jenkin of Club Development Consultancy spoke to David for a special podcast.

We have recently held our National Club Conference with 70 representatives from 30 different clubs and the interview reflects on that gathering and the strong sense of #SALtogether which currently permeates through the sport in Scotland.

Indeed, David chats on the podcast about our very successful Club Together programme and jogscotland as well as other projects like the Club Leaders Academy and the Young People’s Forum.

He also talks about the Development team at scottishathletics and the National Community Impact project which has recently welcomed the appointments of Steph McLean and Chandler Richardson.

East Kilbride AC gather after training to distribute kit gifted to the club by Laura Muir

‘It’s really important there is a stron bond with grassroots’ – Laura Muir

Laura Muir recently made a special gift of spare kit to three of our clubs when she attended the Lindsays West District XC Relays.

It was a superb gesture fully appreciated by East Kilbride AC, Garscube Harriers and Shettleston Harriers who have since been distributing the kit (shoes and clothing).

Gordon Colvin, President of East Kilbride AC, said: ‘We were recently the lucky recipients of two large bags full of excess athletics kit donated by Laura.

‘This week, the club handed out the kit to the winners, randomly drawn from a complete list of EKAC athletes from U11 up to U20. The kit was thus distributed as widely as possible to around 80 young athletes, who were absolutely delighted with Laura’s gifts.

‘Many of the items will get well-used, some will be kept as special souvenirs, but all will be treasured. So THANK YOU Laura Muir.

‘Laura is such a great example of Scotland’s elite athletes keeping in touch with the grassroots of our sport.’
