Cross country sessions – dates, venues for four regions around Scotland

scottishathletics are strong supporters of the principle of group training sessions in cross country.

The Glasgow Athletics Association have led the way on these for quite some time with sessions also happening in Edinburgh and in the North District in recent years.

We are delighted now that all three regions are scheduling group training days for the 2024-25 winter. And that there are now plans for sessions in Central Scotland with Stirling and Falkirk as venues.

The clear goal of these is to help raise overall performance standardas in cross country in Scotland and allow coaches to gather in an informal setting to share knowledge and experience.

At each venue, the number of reps will vary for each age group. Listen to instructions from the coach(es) for the number of reps appropriate to you.

Glasgow

For athletes in the U15 cross country age group and older. Please be warmed and ready to go for the first rep at 10.30am

Dates and reps:

12 October: Bellahouston Park, 4-8 x 3min; 90 secs recovery

9 November: Tollcross Park 4-8 x 4 mins with 2 mins recovery

28 December: Bellahouston –  6-10 x 3mins with 90 sec recovery

18 January: Pollok 5-10 min tempo (1min gather/recovery) 10 x 1 min with 1 min recovery, (1min gather/recovery) 5-10 min tempo

8 February: Tollcross  Park 6-10 x 4 mins;  2min recovery

Arrive at 10.45am warmed up and ready to go or meet at 10am for a coached comprehensive warm up (extensive drills incorporated)
