Clubbing Together: Three more clubs join project as we reflect on year

Thursday 26th September 2024

The scottishathletics Club Together Project, established in 2011, continues to be a key part of the scottishathletics National Club Development Programme.

Club Together is recognised as one of the most successful club development programmes across the Scottish sporting sector which has resulted in significant increases in participation numbers and club membership alongside strengthening club infrastructure and club operations.

As of 2023-24 there are 22 athletics clubs involved in the project with 30 Officers. Over the last 12 months the programme and its clubs have delivered:

  • 424 hours per week of officer club development delivery, working alongside a critical volunteer workforce.
  • a 3 % increase in membership numbers.
  • over 1100 new members recruited in participating clubs.
  • a 85% retention rate of new members.

The annual investment in the programme during 2023 – 24 was £291k with an incredible 75% being invested by participated clubs and 19% of the finance invested by scottishathletics.

Over the 13 years since the programme was launched the investment in staffing costs alone has been over £3.1 million.

We are pleased to have had three new clubs join the project in recent weeks. Shetland AAC have an officer recruited and in post, with Motherwell AC and Helensburgh AAC both currently going through their recruitment process.
