Double Olympian Callum Hawkins is close to making a return to competitive road racing action.

The Kilbarchan AAC athlete, who finished fourth in the marathon in the last two World Champs, unfortunately will miss out on major international events at that distance this summer.

But Callum has been working hard on his rehab after surgery in the United States and is starting to line up events.

Callum will run the Tru Wealth Scottish 10k Champs at Kilmarnock on Sunday 12 June as a ‘comeback’ on a day when he will also be a ‘Roon the Toon’ ambassador in a prize-giving role.

And the Antrim Half Marathon has now announced that both Callum and brother Derek are set to compete on Sunday 28 August in Northern Ireland.

‘I am out training in Arizona as I work to recover fitness,’ said Callum.

‘But I can’t wait to get back racing on the roads again I’m looking forward to the Antrim Coast Half Marathon at the end of August. It is an event with a strong reputation.’

Callum has a Half Marathon PB of 60:00 while Derek’s best is 63:53.
