Following the Andy Young Disciplinary Panel decision announcements from UK Athletics, scottishathletics have issued the following response.
‘We note the decision of the independent UKA Disciplinary Panel and the independent Appeal Panel following the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings concerning Andrew Young,’ said chief executive, Colin Hutchison.
‘We would like to express our deep regret that these incidents took place and express our support for the athletes involved.
‘The serious misconduct here indicates that the line between performance expectations and athlete welfare and wellbeing was crossed.
‘As with UKA, athlete welfare remains our over-riding priority, and we will continue to seek to enforce the highest standards of conduct across the sport.
‘Anyone who may wish to raise a concern about behaviour within the sport is encouraged to contact safeguarding@uka.org.uk or report a concern via the UKA website.
‘As a priority, the outcome of these proceedings and any subsequent implications will be discussed by the Board of Scottish Athletics.’
