Brodie Young banked a brilliant individual bronze medal at the European U23 Champs in Bergen.

Alyson Bell struck Relay gold with the GB and Ni Women’s 4x100m team and Rebecca Grieve was a team medallist in Norway, too, as the Women 4x400m team also struck gold.

What a few days for the Scots in Bergen with Brodie superb over three days and Rebecca for her part coming up with a great opening lef oin

The Airdrie Harriers athlete came up with a PB at the right moment to take third in Saturday’s final after cruising through hearts and semi-final,

Brodie clocked 45.34 and that is inside the Commonwealth Games standard for the Men’s 400m at Glasgow 2026.

His University of New Mexico team-mate, Rebecca Grieve had a great few days, too, with the Pitreavie AAC athlete making the final in the individual 400m. Rebecca was eighth in 52.59 seconds.

In a tightly contested men’s 400m final, Brodie had the speed to push him into the medal spaces, finishing just six hundredths off the silver medal with a time of 45.34.

‘The last 100 was honestly the toughest last 100 I have ever had in my career,’ he said.

‘I felt good for the first half of it, but as soon as the lactic started to creep in, it was just so difficult.

‘All I was thinking was about staying composed and trying not to fall over myself, and thankfully managed to hold on for bronze.’

Alyson came through the Women’s 200m heats but then finished fifth in her semi-final with 23.59.

The Relay was a major high, however, as the GB and Ni quartet – with the Giffnock athlete on the third leg – setting a new Championship Recoard at 42.93 seconds.

Likewise for Rebecca as she lined up on the opening leg of the Women’s 4x400m final (with the GB men a DQ earlier in the day in that event).

The Pitreavie sprinter had to dig deep for yet another race but handed over with a clear lead and the British team were to win in a Championship Record run of 3:26.52

Stirling based Ryan Martin competed in the Men’s 1500m heat and clocked 3:51 in very warm conditions on Thursday.
