Helensburgh to host West Champs via Babcock 10k Series

More than 600 runners have already entered the Babcock 10k Series – with races coming up in May.

The Series starts with the Babcock Shettleston 10k on Glasgow Green on Sunday 12 May,

The Dumbarton race follows on Thursday 23 May at 7.30pm and the Babcock Helensburgh 10k on Thursday 30 May (also 7.30pm) concludes the three-race series.

Within the Dumbarton event, the race will host the Dunbartonshire AAA 10k Championships with medals for individuals, teams and age groups whilst the Babcock Helensburgh 10k will incorporate the Scottish Athletics West District Championships.

The medals for the championships will be presented by the winner from the first race in 1983, Gerry Gaffney of Inverlcyde AC, and similarly Elaine Mackay of Shettleston Harriers, who won the race a num,ber times in the early 1980s, will present the women’s medals

Last year’s Dumbarton winner, Taha Ghafari, is expected to line up in Dumbarton and Helensburgh. Calum Johnson from Gateshead Harriers set a new course record in the Glasgow race last year is expected to head North again for the Helensburgh race.

Nynke Mulholland-Stummer won last year in Dumbarton and is planning to defend her title this year.

Runners can benefit from an extension to the ‘Early Bird’ discount which will save them £5.00 from the Series entry until midnight on 31 January.
