Amy wins British gold at CE; Sheffield Scots impress as Holly runs U17 Record

Amy Kennedy gave athletics in Scotland a superb home win when the Combined Events British Champs came to Glasgow.

The Cumbernauld AAC athlete took gold in the Women’s pentathlon after a series of strong performances saw her tally 3648 points.

Visiting Kiwi athlete Christina Ryan actually topped the standings to win the Scottish gold – in our ‘open’ championships system – but was not eligible for the British medals.

English athlete Oliver Adnit from Kington upon Hull led home the men’s British podium with 5304 points. Top Scot, in fourth place, was Alister Mackay of Team East Lothian with 5032 points.

At U20 level, there was a Scottish title for Zac Fearn of Team East Lothian with 4651 points. Gateshead athlete Hannah Wilson won the Women’s U20 title with 3388 points.

At U17 level, Douglas Knox of Springburn Harriers followed up his EAP International appearance with the gold here with 4893 points. The U17 Women’s gold was won by Leanna Elliot of Cumbernauld AAc with 3279 points.

There were fine performances, too, in our Combined Events championships in lower age groups. Airdrie athlete Dionne Maguiness won the U15 Girls event with a points tally of 3422 which was a Scottish Record performance, subject to ratification. Pitreavie AAC athlete Michael Massey won the U15 boys title with 2525 points.

Harmeny’s Blake Burchill won the U13 Boys title with a tally of 2014 points which will also be a new record in that age group, subject to ratification.

Aberdeen AAC athlete Karley Paterson won the U13 Girls gold with 2355.

Well done to all our CE athletes, coaches and clubs competing in the championships and thanks, as ever, to our volunteers and Officials.

In our Combined Events team challenge:

In U13 Girls, Aberdeen AAC took the top spot with 2554 points, followed by Hameny AC in second with 2113 points and Spring Burn in third with 1739 points.

In the U13 Boys, Harmeny AC took the win with 1985 Points, followed by VP Glasgow in second with 1255 points, and Springburn harriers with 1255 points.

U15 Girls was won by Airdrie with 3434, followed by Central in second with 3104 and Inverness in third with 2493!

U15 Boys, Kilmarnock won with 1883 points, ahead of Inverclyde with 1454 points.

In the overall trophy Harmeny AC took the win accumulating 107 placing points, ahead of Springburn Harriers with 95 and Giffnock North with 78 Points.

Sheffield played host to the England Athletics Age Groups and there were some excellent performances by the visiting Scottish cohort.

Aberdeen AAC athlete Holly Whittaker won gold in the U20 Women’s 60m hurdles. Holly clocked 8.39 seconds to equal the British Record in the age group.

There was gold, too, in the jumps as Matilda Brockley of Edinburgh AC came up with a PB leap of 12.14m to win the U20 Women’s triple jump.

Whitemoss AAC sprinter Emma Clark took silver in the U17 200m.

Kilmarnock Harriers athlete Logan Mitchell took silver in the U20 Men’s shot with 14.75m.

At U15 level, there was a bronze in the 800m for Harry Robinson of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers with 2:08.17.

Well done to athletes, parents and coaches who made the trip to Sheffield.
