Adam plots throws progress after switch from Para swimming

Thursday 13th April 2023

Adam Donnachie is a year one student in our 4J Studios National Athletics Academy.

The Para thrower joined our training camp at Stirling earlier this month and the surroundings were familiar as he is studying at Stirling Uni.

Adam is a ‘talent-transfer’ in Para sport after spending a number of years competing in swimming. Now his focus is on the throws.

‘I am a little different from most Para athletes in track and field in Scotland in terms of my route into the sport,’ he explained.

‘I was competitive in swimming for the best part of a decade at national level, just below the British pathway.

‘Around 2018 I decided it was time to look towards a different sport. Lockdown hit and when we came out of that I’d learned that seated throws was for me.

‘The main focus now is the javelin and the discus as those are part of the Paralympic programme.’

Adam’s achievements were recognised at Stirling University Sports Union Awards last week, where he received the Catriona Lambert Medal (Scholar of the Year) Award – congratulations to Adam for that well-earned recognition.
