Junior Hill Running Champs round-up; Andy second at trial

Our Men’s U20 medallists with Sam Griffin centre flanked by Struan Bennet and Euan Rollo

Peebles hosted the scottishathletics Junior Hill Running Championships on Saturday on the slopes of their local hill Cademuir.

The Rollercoaster follows the grassy trails round and over the hill.

The 5.8km event was open to all ages from U17 upwards and Sam Griffin (Aberdeen AC) had a great run to finish first overall and take the U20 title.

In the juniors Isla Hedley, U17, (Fife AC) was first across the line with a very strong run and second female home. Scotland International Scout Adkin (Moorfoots) won the women’s event in a new course record.

The U15 & U13 (non Championship event) raced over 3km where both male and female records were broken by Iwan Thomas (Carmarthen Harriers) and U13G Cerys Wright (Team East Lothian)

The Rollercoaster was also the selection race for the Junior Home International on 4 September for U20 and U17 age groups.

At the Scafell Trail Marathon, Andy Douglas was second in 3.35.01 to Tom Adams in 3.32.29. This was a trial race for the World Mountaind and Trail Running Long Distance Champs later this year – and the first two are automatic selections.

In the women’s event, Georgia Tindley (HBT) was third in 4.24.19 from Eleanor Davies 4.08.12 and Nicola Jackson 4.24.19.

*Entries close on August 18 for the West District Hill Running Championships at Luss on. The event is on Saturday 21 August.
