#TallinnTen: Alyson and Brodie land relay golds

Alyson Bell landed a superb gold medal with GB at the Euro U20 Champs in Estonia in the Women’s 4x100m Relay.

The Giffnock North AC athlete was on the opening leg and her 12.13 split was even quicker than in the heats earlier on Sunday (12.23).

Eve Wright, Joy Eze and Success Eduan got the baton round and Eduan took the finishing line in 44.62 just ahead of the pre-race favourite Germany and Poland.

It was a great moment for the young Scot, who is part of the 4J Studios National Academy.

‘It was absolutely amazing,’ said Alyson.

‘Hearing the crowd cheer for us really helped me and made me want to go fast and hard right from the start. We had great exchanges and that really helped as it was down to milliseconds at the finish line.’

Well done to Alyson, her family and her coach Billy Glasgow.

Brodie Young added to the medal tally a couple of hours after Alyson after playing a key role in the GB victory in the Men’s 4x400m final.

The Airdrie Harriers athlete had delivered a very strong opening leg in the heats on Saturday and kept his place despite a couple of changes by the British staff for the final itself.

And Brodie delivered again with a strong run of 47.31 on the opening leg that ensured he handed over the baton in first place to Samuel Reardon.

It was then left to Charlie Carvell and the individual 400m champion, Edward Faulds, to complete the job for GB – who won in 3:05.25 from Italy and Germany.

‘I wish I could describe what I am feeling right now,’ said Brodie.

‘I knew I had to do my best today, I had to be very fast in the first 200m so we could get a good head start and into the change quickly.’

Brodie had finished sixth in his semi-final of the individual event after initially coming through his heat with a third-place run.

Pole vaulter Reuben Nairne could be well satisfied with his performances in a GB vest at the Euro U20s.

The Giffnock North athlete finished eighth in the final on Sunday afternoon with a 5.05 equal PB his best clearance (after also clearing 4.90m).

Reuben was ranked 21st equal in the whole event prior to the action starting yet delivered superbly both in qualifying and then in the final.

Well done to Reuben, his family and coach Brian Donaldson on representing GB in Estonia.

It was good to see Kirsty Costello make a GB debut at the Euro U20s in Estonia this morning in the Women’s Hammer.

The Kilbarchan AAC athlete threw out to 56.45 in her third round (after a foul and a 54m throw) and took 9th place in her pool, missing out on a place in the final. It is worth noting 34 athletes were involved, with only 12 to go through.

Well done to Kirsty, her family and coach Chris Bennett on representing GB at the Euro U20 Champs.

It was a similar story with triple jumper Bera Ajala on Saturday afternoon. In fact, Bera was within a couple of slots of reaching the final as his 15.04m best jump in qualifying placed him 14^th – with the top 12 progressing to Sunday’s final.

Well done to Bera, his family and coach John Scott on representing GB at the Euro U20 Champs.
