Athletics Weekly coverage
Eilish McColgan came up with one of the best performances of her career at The Ten 10,000m event in Los Angeles.
The double Olympian clocked a new PB on the track for the distance with a run of 30:58.94.
That’s lifted her to second in the Scottish all-time list – with her mum Liz holding the Scottish Record at 30:57.07 from 1991.
Eilish was third in the race behind two American athletes, Elise Cranny and Karissa Schweizer. Eilish’s PB prior to the race in California had been at 31:16.
It’s also almost 30 seconds quicker than the standard being asked for by British Athletics for the Olympics – at 31:25.00.
In terms of the British all-time list, which is led by Paula Radcliffe, the Scot is now at now fifth after moving up from seventh. Fellow Brit, Marc Scott, won the men’s race in 27:10.41 and is now second on the UK all-time list.
Well done to Eilish, coach/mum Liz, partner Michael (Rimmer) – a superb way to start 2021!
Gutted to be just 1s outside my mum's PB & Scottish Record but can't complain with a big PB & sub 31!
Definitely worth the last minute flight to LA. 😁
Thanks to @sound_running & @BowermanTC for the race! 💥🏃🏼♀️ https://t.co/wfD7cYy2g0
