Extraordinary Josh breaks World Record in London

Scottish track hero Josh Kerr is in the running for a global award.

Josh has been short-listed for the Moment of the Year at the World Athletics Awards later this month.

The Edinburgh AC athlete  ran a time of three minutes 42.66 seconds at the London Diamond League in July, smashing the 27-year-old World Record held by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj by almost half a second.

Josh was cheered on by the home crowd at an electric London Stadium throughout a long solo run for home as he chased the clock.

In April, Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe, 31, became the first athlete to run a competitive marathon in under two hours in another historic moment for the sport.

Sawe won in a time of one hour 59 minutes 30 seconds, more than one minute faster than the late Kelvin Kiptum‘s previous marathon record of 2:00:35, set in 2023.

Botswana winning the men’s 4x400m relay title in front of a wild home crowd at the World Relays is the third nominee.

The awards take place in Monaco on 29 November, with the Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Year, rising star and coach among the other awards to be presented.
