Henry helps GB to World 100k team silver medals in Spain

Scottish athlete Henry Hart came up with a superb run at the IAU World 100km Championship at A Coruña, Spain, on Sunday.

The Scottish 50km record holder improved his PB to 6:33:18 when finishing in 12th place in a high-class field.

As GB and NI’s third counter, he was instrumental in securing the team silver in a very close contest with the United States and France.

United States ultimately took gold by less than a minute (with the team competition being decided by the cumulative times of a country’s first three runners).

Wimbledon’s Alex Milne, the 2025 Loch Ness Marathon champion, helped lead the GB and NI team to the podium.

He came through strongly in the last 20km to secure a fine, individual bronze medal in 6:17:50 behind USA’s Charlie Lawrence, and world 100km record holder, Lithuania’s Aleksandr Sorokin.

That time is a new British road record, bettering Steve Way‘s mark of 6:19:20 from Gravesend in 2014 and moving him to second on the UK all-time list. Only legendary Scottish ultra runner Don Ritchie has a better time with his 6:10:20 track performance from 1978.

Hugh Tibbs was GB and NI’s second counter, finishing in 7th with 6:26:54.

Hart’s time of 6:33:18 moves him to third on the Scottish all-time 100km road list behind former world 100km champion Simon Pride’s 6:24:05 and Ritchie’s best road mark of 6:28:11.

Jaqueline Wilson from Fife ran a solid 8:30:54 to finish in 39th place, on what became a warm, humid day.

GB and NI women’s team finished just outside the team medals.

They were well placed for a possible podium finish going into the last of 20 5km laps, when Sarah Webster (Lewes), who was lying in third place, suddenly pulled up with cramps and was unable to finish.

Scottish 100km international Chloe Sangster (Metro Aberdeen ) took the silver medal at the UKA 24 hour championships at the weekend.

Chloe completed 202.046 km /125.545 miles at the event held within the Sri Chinmoy 24 hour race at Tooting Bec in south London.
