It is with great sadness that Arbroath and District AC announces the sudden death of Winston (Win) Webber.
Win became part of the club more than 30 years ago as a parent and then as a coach, progressing to a Level 4. He was also a highly qualified field Official and officiated at many events, both locally and nationally.
Win and his late wife Anne spent a great number of years coaching the athletes and managing the various competition teams, giving up their time and sharing their athletics experience with others. Win also became the Head Coach mentoring many volunteers to become coaches and officials along the way.
Win then became Club Chairperson and held this role for many years until his untimely death. He managed to even work out how to join the online committee meetings despite not being very tech savvy!
Win was heavily involved in the RAM League and held many roles on their committee helping secure funds to keep the league going for young athletes in the North East. He was also involved with the YDL and the Men’s and Women’s Leagues. again giving up many hours to our sport.
He loved nothing more than taking a new athlete who joined the club at age seven right through to them representing the club at various local and national competitions. The club competed well beyond our size at these events in no small part due to Win’s coaching and dedication to the athletes.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
All at scottishathletics send our sympathies to Win’s family and friends and also all at the club.
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Wednesday 10 December – St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Ponderlaw, Arbroath
10am followed by a service at Parkgrove Crematorium at 11:30am
