Picked for Portugal: Three Scots selected for GB and NI to race at Euro Cross Champs

Three Scottish athletes will race for Novuna GB and NI at the Euro Cross Country Champs next month.

Megan Keith, Phoebe Anderson and Zara Redmond have all been picked for the event in Lagoa, Portugal.

Megan and Phoebe are selected for the Senior Women’s race on Sunday 14 December with Zara picked for GB and NI for the first time in the U20 Women’s category.

It is a proud moment for all three and congratulations to the athletes on their selection for GB and NI and to their parents, coaches and clubs involved in their developments over a number of years.

Phoebe won the U23 Women’s title at the Euro Cross last year but now steps up to Senior level. Megan similarly won the U23 Women’s gold in Belgium two years ago.

Zara placed fourth among the U20 Women in the trial race at Liverpool last weekend with the top five placed athletes assured of selection.

‘The trial in Liverpool clearly demonstrated the depth and quality within UK cross country,’ said GB and NI Team Leader, Sarah Benson.

‘We’re excited to select a team that blends proven performers with emerging athletes making their Great Britain and Northern Ireland debuts.

‘Our aim is to win medals at these championships and to give developing athletes the platform to progress towards future senior outdoor majors, including the upcoming World Cross Country Championships.

‘We are proud of our rich history at this Championship. This event remains a key stepping stone for our endurance pathway, and I’m looking forward to seeing the team seize the opportunity next month.’
