Athletes land Scotland vests for Liverpool

Scottish athletes will join the race to Portugal this weekend in Liverpool.

The British Cross Challenge event on Mersyside doubles up as the trials for the Euro Cross coming up in Lagoa, Portugal, next month.

And a strong Scottish cohort – with 24 athletes awarded representative vests – will travel to Sefton Park with hopes high.

UK Athletics pick teams at Senior, U23 and U20 level for the Euro Cross.

At Liverpool, the selection policy dictates the first four across the line at Senior and U23 level are automactically selected for the GB and NI team.

In the U20 races, the top five will be guaranteed selection.

Scotland selections:

Senior Women:

Phoebe Anderson (Herne Hill);  Amy Frankland (Lasswade); Grace Molloy (Linlithgow AC); Grace Whelan (Central AC)

Senior Men:

Jamie Crowe (Central); Angus McMillan (City of York); Ben Potrykus (Inverclyde); Logan Rees (Fife)

U23 Women:

Caitlin Purcell (Aberdeen); Kirsty Purcell (Aberdeen); Anya Maclean (Edinburgh Uni); Grace Tindall (Edinburgh Uni)

U23 Men:

Finlay Ross-Davie (Garscube); Sam Griffin (Edinburgh Uni); Jack Patton (Glasgow Uni); Angus Smith (Corstorphine)

U20 Women:

Zara Redmond (Kilbarchan); Zoe Rennie (Edinburgh Uni); Jessica Taylor (Edinburgh); Tuscany Wright (Glasgow Uni)

U20 Men:

James Alexander (Garscube); Andrew Baird (Inverness); Iain Jordan (Central); Innes Wright (Edinburgh Uni)

We expect double Olympian Andy Butchart to race this weekend while Megan Keith is also hoping for selection but is not expected to race the trial.

Butchart and his Central AC team-mates will once again be seeking progress to the European Clubs Cross Country next year.

Good luck to all Scots making the trip to Liverpool this weekend.
