British Athletics website announcement
British Athletics have announced the Novuna GB and NI team for the U23 European Championships in Norway from 17–20 July.
A squad of 44 athletes has been selected in line with the selection policy, with the aim for these Championships being to maximise a top-five placing overall.
Four Scottish (or Scottish-based) athletes have been picked for the visit to Bergen following on from recent performances and the trials last weekend at the Welsh Championships.
*Alyson Bell (Giffnock North/Edinburgh Uni Anne Scott) is selected for the 200m and the 4x100m Relay
*Rebecca Grieve (Pitreavie AAC/Uni New Mexico Francis Smith) is selected for the 400m and Relay
*Brodie Young (Airdrie Harriers/Uni New Mexico James McMenemy) is selected for the 400m and Relay
*Ryan Martin (Falkirk Victoria/Stirling Uni Michael Wright) is selected for the 1500m.
Many congratulations to these athletes and to their families, coaches and clubs. Representing GB and NI at a European Championship event is a significant achievement and only comes after many years of hard work.
It is worth noting that the Novuna Diamond League event in London is over the same weekend as the European U23 Champs and may have influenced the priorities for some athletes.
