Colin Hutchison has thanked the full athletics community in Scotland for their patience and support during the 4J Indoor Season.

scottishathletics delivered three qualifying events and the 4J National Finals Weekend at Grangemouth over a five-week period.

The redevelopment work at the Emirates Arena for the World Indoor Champs ensured certain events could not be staged.

But across sprints, hurdles, jumps and shot putt, championship medals have been awarded following events at Ayr, Pitreavie, Aberdeen and Grangemouth – with the sessions at each ruinning from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

‘I want to thank everyone in the track and field communitiy for their patience and support over the past couple of months,’ said Colin, in between presenting medals at Grangemouth on Saturday.

‘There is no denying it has been extremely challenging to try and deliver what we did. We’ve asked for support from athletes, coaches, parents, venue operators and our staff.

‘I’m pleased to say we had a really good response with people coming to appreciate we were operating a time in quite tight spaces in terms of venues.

‘I must thank the Officials in particular. We have been around the country and there have been Friday nights each time, too. In other years we’ve been at the Emirates week after week in the Indoor Season so much of the set-up work is done and remains in place. That’s been different with four venues.

Ethan Pottie of VP-Glasgow and Rachel Lorimer of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers won the Senior gold medals in the 60m sprint finals on Saturday afternoon.

There was a good spread of clubs involved across the various age groups and great to see athletes from Stornoway RAC and North Uist AC making a big commitment to competition. There were visitors from England and Ireland, too.
