Matt and Claire win golds at Scottish Trail Champs; East League XC

Our Scottish Trail Champs took place in Speyside on Sunday over the inaugural Skiddadle-Speyside 10km event.

The wet and cold conditions didn’t dampen the enjoyment of the event which started in Archiestown and followed forest trails to finish in the Cardhu Distillery grounds.

In the men’s race, Matt Knowles (Edinburgh University) led from the gun and was a clear winner from local athlete James Wilson (Moray RR).

In the women’s race, Claire Bruce (Metro Aberdeen) stormed round to win by over two minutes from Murial Macleod (Stornaway), who was second overall and first V40, with V50 Allie Chong (Giffnock) taking third place overall.

In the team event Moray RR were first home in the men’s race and Spey Valley took the women’s golds. The race was an open event so runners not affiliated to scottishathletics are also included in the results.

Action from East League meeting at Kirkcaldy (photo by Neil Renton)

The East League XC season kicked off with a visit to Kirkcaldy last weekend.

Nancy Scott of Edinburgh AC won the Women’s race and the Edinburgh club took the team race.

Alastair Marshall of Central AC has been in fine form in recent weeks and continued with his victory in the Senior Men’s race. Central AC, holders of the League Shield, won the team race.
