A strong GB and NI team will compete at the World 100km Championships in Berlin this weekend – including Scottish duo Jo Murphy and Jason Kelly.

Following team selection in April, eight athletes will represent the country over the challenging discipline.

Based on personal bests, Jo Murphy leads the way in the women’s field for the British quartet as she recorded a time of 7:41:12 at the Anglo Celtic Plate Home Countries International earlier this year which placed her sixth on the UK all-time rankings.

At the trials, Jason Kelly ran a very solid 6.42:23 for second which placed him seventh on those rankings.

Six athletes will represent Scotland at the half marathon distance this weekend.

The Antrim Coast Half Marathon is on Sunday 28 August, and is once again a World Athletics elite label road race.

Our Scotland selections for Antrim are:

Men: Sean Chalmers (Inverness Harriers), Lewis Rodgers (Fife AC), Michael Christoforou and Fraser Stewart (Cambuslang Harriers)

Women: Rebecca Burns (Pitreavie AAC), Claire Bruce and Virginie Barrand (Metro Aberdeen)

Congratulations to these athletes and their families and coaches as well as the clubs who helped in their development.

Good luck to all the Scots competing in Antrim with Callum Hawkins due to use the event to continue his return to race form.

The TCS London Mini Marathon is taking place on Saturday 1 October and once again scottishathletics are making plans to send Scotland teams.

This race is one of the highlights of the season for young athletes and has been an important part of the development for many of our current Senior international athletes.

The event will once again be run over the shorter 2.6km course that was introduced last year. This year it will take place on Saturday – the day before the TCS London Marathon.

scottishathletics are looking to take teams of six athletes in the U17 and U15 age-groups for boys and girls.

Teams will be selected based on recent performances over 1500m and 3000m.

Coaches and parents of athletes who have met our consideration standards, and who are keen to race in London on October 1, should express their interest by email to Mark Nixon

mark.nixon@scottishathletics.org.uk

Please do this by Tuesday 30 August.
