4J SUPERteams info

Hundreds of young athletes head for Glasgow this weekend to compete in the 4J SUPERteams.

The Emirates Arena plays host to this team event for the youngest athletes at our clubs – and for many of these U12s this will be their first experience of competition in a national context.

The SUPERteams is a formula which works and we can’t wait to savour the enthusiasm this event generates as youngsters take on running, jumping and throwing events.

We see this very much as about development and have almost 70 teams entered from 25 different clubs from across Scotland.

Unfortunately, our overall spectator number is still limited under Covid-19 restrictions (with 200 allowed). Registration for those places has closed and, please, if you are not on the list we would ask you not to come along.

Those who are attending the Emirates are asked to take a Lateral Flow Test on Saturday/Sunday as we of course seek to minimise risks..

A few points to note:

  • Doors for athletes and spectators open at 8.30
  • Spectators will be asked to show booking confirmation on door so have this ready on arrival to avoid queues.
  • Team Managers to declare teams at declarations desk – athletes go straight into arena. TMs will only be able to declare athletes on the entry form – no additional names can be added to entry pools at this late stage.
  • Each team will need to name a Team Manager on their declarations form on arrival. TMs don’t need a spectator ticket as counted as part of team.
  • Check online for pools lists and timetables. Arrive at least one hour before your team’s first event.
  • Event will finish with presentation of medals and trophies – teams and spectators encouraged to stay for that at end of day.

Thanks in advance to all the clubs and team managers for their help and support and to our dedicated scottishathletics Officials, who we know particularly relish their role in helping young athletes at the SUPERteams

Young People’s Forum announced

The scottishathletics Young People’s Forum will gather in person for the first time on Sunday.

We announced in December that a number of applications had been successful – with the strength of the candidates such that we increased the original ‘squad’ from 12 to 15.

Within an age range of 14-23, no fewer than 40 applications for the Young People’s Forum were received – which exceeded all our expectations!

Now the YPF will meet up to meet each other for the first time and discuss future projects.
