Stirling 10k – details on Central AC website

Championship racing in Scotland returns to our roads in Stirling on Sunday morning.

And it should be an exciting contest as individuals and clubs battle for Scottish 10k medals at the Stirling 10k organised by Central AC.

Entries have now closed with around 375 names as this popular event returns after being cancelled a year ago due to Covid-19.

Central are always determined to do well at this race and that’s reflected in entries that are led by double Olympian Andy Butchart as well as Jamie Crowe, Alastair Hay, Hamish Hickey, Tom Graham-Marr and Alastair Marshall.

Inverclyde AC could be strong on the men’s side, too, with entries for Andy Douglas, Jonny Glen and Sean Fontana.

The likes of James Donald, Kenny Wilson, Lewis Rodgers, Darly Reid and Douglas Selman will hope to be prominent, too, and we notice names like Fraser Stewart and Michael Christoforou for Cambuslang Harriers.

The Women’s race arguably looks more open than over previous years in recent times (with Fionnuala Ross a regular winner in Stirling but not entered this year).

Jenny Bannerman of Inverness Harriers could take advantage and other notable names include Jen Wetton, Kara McKenzie-Tait, Louisa Brown, Katy Barden, Megan Crawford, Kristin Lownie, Claire Houston, Fiona Matheson and Avril Mason.

It’s a flat, fast and scene route which starts and finishes outside the Peak at Stirling Sports Village.

As well as National Championship medals, there are Stirling 10k individual prizes for age groups from 15 up to 60+ and prizes for the first male and female teams.

One of two aspects of the day are different from previous years because of the pandemic – there’s no 2k fun run on this occasion’
