Mini Marathon report from April 2019

The Virgin Money London Marathon is coming up next month – and now scottishathletics are keen to explore a Scotland opportunity for young athletes to participate.

Sunday 3 October is the date for the 2021 delayed event and organisers have now confirmed the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon will take place on that weekend, too.

Scotland have traditionally sent teams at U17 and U15 to this event and we are keen to do so again as events and international opportunities start to return following Covid-19 restrictions for much of 2020 and part of this year.

Unfortunately, given the timeline now open to us, it will not be possible to stage trial races for the purposes of selection.

scottishathletics are looking to send teams of six athletes in the U17 Men and Women age groups and the U15 Boys and Girls categories.

Teams will be picked based on Scottish eligibility and recent performances (during 2021) at 1500m and 3000m.

The races on October 3 are over the final 2.6k of the marathon course.

Age groupings for this race are and U17 DOB 01/09/04 to 31/8/06 and U15DOB 01/09/06 to 31/8/08.

Athletes who meet the following time standards will come under consideration:

U17 Women: Sub 10:30 3000m; Sub 4:45 1500m

U17 Men: Sub 9:00 3000m; Sub 4:00 1500m

U15Girls: Sub 11:00 3000m; Sub 5:00 1500m

U15 Boys: Sub 10:00 3000m Sub 4:30 1500m

Coaches and parents of athletes who have met those consideration standards, and who are keen to race in London on October 3, should express an interest by email to performanceteam@scottishathletics.org.uk

Please do this by 10pm on Sunday 12 September

With time for planning short, we intend making selections on Tuesday 14 September.
