Results Luss 21

The first junior hill running league race for 2021 was held at Luss on Saturday 19 June.

The courses were held on the western edge of Loch Lomond and offered spectacular views over the Loch.

It was great to see the junior athletes racing on the hills again, with almost 50  juniors competing. There were races for the U11’s upwards.

The U17/U20 race also served as the selection race for the Home Countries Youth International. In the men’s event, Reuben MacDonald (Giffnock North AC) had a close race with Fraser Gilmour (VP-Glasgow) over the hill.

In the women’s race Isla Hedley (Fife AC) had a very strong run to be the clear winner. The first two past the post gained automatic selection for  the U18 event.

Athletes born in 2004 or 2005 are eligible for this competition, which is being held in Ambleside on 24 July ( formerly the U18 Mountain Running Cup).

The event has been downsized due to Covid-19 and will be a GB Home Countries and Ireland International and a few other individual athletes have entered from Europe.

Scotland will be represented by

U18 Males

Struan Bennet (Fife AC);  Fraser Gilmour (VP-Glasgow); Reuben MacDonald (Giffnock North AC); Angus Wright (Team East Lothian)

U18 Females

Anna Hedley (Fife AC); Isla Hedley (Fife AC); Katie Slimon (Highland HR); Valencia Wright (Giffnock North AC)

Congratulations to the athletes and their coaches and good luck in July.

The field was restricted due to travel issues for a number of athletes but still a great start for the Scottish athlete.

It was the Tatra Race, Zakopane, in Poland, with athletes racing 24km and taking on 1700m climb. Charlotte was first in 2.46.05, from Alice Gaggie in 2.47.12 and third Iwona Januszyk in 2.50.51
