The scottishathletics senior hill running season kicks off with the East District Championships on Wednesday 2 June at Red Moss Kips Race.

That is followed by the North District Championship follows on June 27 at the Half Nevis Race. The West is still to be confirmed and the Senior Championships are on October 9 over the Alex Brett Memorial Cioch Mhor Hill Race.

The format for the British Athletics Hill and Fell Running Championships has been changed due to the cancellation of early season events.

This year the Championship will be a one-off race at Dufton on September 4. Further details can be found online and, as things stand, an Intercounties event is still to be confirmed.

This year Junior UK Inter Counties Championships will have an U15 category for the first time and it is taking place at the Nab Fell Race, Glossop, Sunday 13 June.

This year Ambleside, England was due to host the U18 Mountain Running Cup on a beautiful course. This event has been scaled down but is still going ahead as a more ‘local’ International.

Scotland will take four junior (born in 2004 and 2005) girls and boys to the event. The trial will be held on Saturday 19 June at Luss. Expressions of interest to Angela, please.

The scottishathletics Junior Championship also acts as the selection race for the JHI and is at Cademuir Rollercoaster, Peebles on August 14.

The junior league (U20, U17, U15 categories and races for younger athletes) has two new races this year. These races are designed as a gentle introduction to hill running. Details are online

There was a five-strong Scottish cohort with GB and NI at the 2019 European Mountain Running Champs (L-R): Jacob Adkin, Pippa Carcas, Robbie Simpson, Lauren Dickson, Andy Douglas

There are fewer International opportunities this year for obvious reasons but this year sees the inaugural World Mountain and Trail Running Championship in Thailand, mid-November.

The Championship is a World Athletics Event and is combining mountain and ultra trail running. The events include a vertical K, a classic up and down race, an 80km trail race and a 42km mountain race.

Trial dates and details can be found online

Unfortunately the Snowdon International and the European Championships in July have also been cancelled, meaning Jacob Adkin keeps his individual crown for yet another year.

The Hill Running Commission intend to send a team to Trofeo Nasego in Italy, on September 5, in the absence of Snowdon. This will depend on travel restrictions.

The Senior Home International is at the World Classic Trial on Sunday 19 September.
