We’re listening: Young People’s Survey issued to help shape our sport

scottishathletics are undertaking a major survey as we seek the views of young athletes and young coaches.

The Young People’s Survey will happen over the next couple of weeks with the link to the survey itself sent our by email.

We’re looking for feedback from all young athletes from U11 through to U20 and any teenage coaches, too.

Those aged U16 will be asked to seek permission from a parent or guardian before completing the online form which registers their views on a number of topics.

‘It is abundantly clear that young people are integral to the current and future success of athletics in Scotland,’ said Colin Hutchison, our new chief executive.

‘As the governing body, we want to ensure this group are given a platform to share their opinions and influence the future direction of the sport in Scotland.

‘To help us decide on the most appropriate methods to gather those opinions and involve young athletes in the decision-making process, we would like to gather your thoughts on how you would like to interact with scottishathletics.

‘I’d like to thank National Club Manager Lindsay McMahon for all her hard work on this project. We’ve already received numerous responses and you can still reply up to next Monday.’

The questions are multiple choice in a forma where you can agree/disagree or strongly agree/strongly disagree.

A couple of ideas, as examples, which are raised are:

Would you be in favour of a Young Athletes Forum to meet two or three times a year?

Would you be in favour of a set time on our social media channels for discussion by Young Athletes?

There are also questions about the status of young athletes and young coaches within their clubs.

We’ve looking to have all the responses returned to scottishathletics by a closing date of 12 noon on Monday 8 February.
