The Monument Mile Classic will return to Stirling in the summer – with Friday 21 May the scheduled date for the fourth venture of this highly-popular event.

And, with sponsorship support from GSS Developments, the prize fund pot on offer to athletes is being raised again for 2021.

Race director Michael Wright and organisers Central AC have always seen the Monument Mile Classic as a chance to deliver PB performances across the board but also to try and encourage high quality fields at the top end.

The 2020 event saw two English athletes break the four-minute barrier for men and the prize-money for 2021 is now as follows:

  • 1st Place in Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Races: £250
  • 2nd Place in Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Races: £150
  • 3rd Place in Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Race: £75
  • Joint prize pot for all male athletes under 4:00mins and female athletes under 4:35mins: £1000

(So if no male athlete runs sub-4:00, but one female athlete runs sub 4:35, the female athletes takes the full £1000. If no female athlete runs sub 4:35, but two men run sub-4:00, then they share the £1000 – £500 each)

The 2020 prize pot was £150, £100, £50 for the 1-2-3 and £750 for the time targets.

‘We’re working hard all the time to try and raise the quality of the GSS Developments Monument Mile Classic event,’ said Michael.

‘Hopefully by increasing the prize-pot we attract even better athletes and than that level of competition in turns stimulates better competition and quicker races on the track.’
