The Scottish Senior Hill Champs are coming up this weekend in Perthshire.

And there should be a classic showdown between GB internationals Andy Douglas and Robbie Simpson in the Men’s race.

Almost 150 entrants are getting ready for races on Sunday which will be held over 12k on an uphill only course at Comrie Croft and Fordie Estate with 830m of climb and 150m of descent.

There’s a big entry this year in the U23 category which applies in Scottish hill running and it is encouraging for this discipline to have a large number of students involved.

Simpson (Deeside Runners) and Douglas (Inverclyde AC) were both members of the GB quartet who won team gold at the European Mountain Running Champs last summer.

Unfortunately, individual European champion Jacob Adkin was racing abroad last weekend and is in quarantine so misses out this weekend.

Other runners to watch are Ross Gollan (Shettleston), Graham Gristwood (Ochil HR), Ali Mcleod (Shettleston) and recently arrived in Edinburgh is Sam Tosh (Carnethy), who is one of the top English fell runners.

In the women’s race the defending champion is Scout Adkin (Ambleside) and the competition includes Lauren Dickson (Lasswade AC), Holly Page (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds), Grace Molloy (Linlithgow AC) and Catriona Graves (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds). All of these athletes represented Scotland in the hills last year.

Race start at 11am in waves of 30 athletes every 12 minutes and there will be a number of other Covid-19 protocols in place.
