Calling Officials – Message from Margaret Brown and Virtual Training Day

Calling all Officials !

It’s hard for everyone in athletics at the moment with no events – other than our Virtual Challenges – to look forward to and enjoy.

Our dedicated team of scottishathletics Officials simply love making the sport happen so we understand the frustrations at the moment.

As it happens, we are setting up a Virtual Training Day for Officials around the weekend of June 6/7 – with more details below.

First, here’s a message from the Convenor of the Officials’ Commission, Margaret Brown:

‘A few weeks ago who would have thought we would find ourselves living in a worldwide lockdown situation?!

‘It’s an opportunity to reflect, relax and revive and I hope that is exactly what everyone is doing. We have an opportunity to slow down, take stock and work out what matters most.

‘When and if restrictions are lifted I believe that the ‘normal’ we previously knew will have gone and we will be working in a ‘new normal’ – whatever that may look like. I am sure, though, that we will adapt to that ‘new normal’ very quickly and accept perhaps that things need to be different.

‘In the meantime, this enforced time in the garden or with families or whatever your choice is to stay motivated can provide us with a powerful healing situation.

‘We have been and must continue to connect with each other using whatever resources are available to individuals and thank you to those who have the technology knowledge to produce entertaining videos . . . long may those keep us engrossed!

‘We will come together as an Athletics Family again soon and will have renewed strength which this most unusual set of circumstances has provided us with.

‘Take great care and continue to stay healthy and very safe.’

Virtual Training Day for Officials

We are looking at plans to hold a Virtual Training Day for officials. The provisional date is over the weekend of June 6/7.

If anyone has an idea which could be included please let us have your thoughts. All suggestions should be emailed to either Margaret Brown or Alasdhair Love

Licence Renewal

With the current restrictions on face-to-face contact, scottishathletics have developed interim measures for existing coaches and officials whose licences are due for renewal during the lockdown period.

If you have received an email from UK Athletics about renewing your officials licence please email our welfare team and you will be guided through the process. Thanks.
