Revised Hill Running Season for 2020

The Hill Running Commission has reviewed the planned championships in Scotland for the 2020 hill running season in the light of current circumstances.

The Senior and District championships had been scheduled for May and June but, given the current restrictions, none of these championships will take place as planned.

Plans for the Junior championships at Cademuir on Saturday 15 August are currently unchanged.

For the Senior Championships, we intend to reschedule for Sunday 27 September at the UK Trial race for the World Championship team.

Scotland has agreed to host the UK Trial this year: the details of the venue and course have not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to be in central Scotland and will be on an uphill-only course.

The District championships are held in conjunction with existing hill races.

We do not plan to reschedule the 2020 District championships since organisers of races still face uncertainty about whether their races will be able to go ahead later in the year. The next hill running District championships will therefore take place in 2021.

The early fixtures in the 2020 scottishathletics Junior Hill Running League have been cancelled. We do not expect those races to be rescheduled, but hope to calculate league results for the year based on the remaining fixtures.

The Inter-Counties event due in Wales on May 23 is cancelled and there’s no indication yet on whether that one will find another date.

The International Youth Cup, to which we send a Scottish team, was due to take place in the Lake District in June.

We understand organisers expect to reschedule to the autumn or cancel, and we will review our plans for selections for that team once the revised race arrangements become clear.

Friday 27 March Update

The European Mountain Running Champs for 2020 have been cancelled and will not take place this year.

The International Youth Cup has been moved to Saturday 17 October.
