Learn from Nick Percy; Butchart XC; Vote Jemma; Euro Cross

scottishathletics are delighted to announce that Scottish discus champion and National Record holder Nick Percy will be in Glasgow next week to deliver a guest coaching session.

VP-Glasgow will host the session at Scotstoun Stadium on Thursday 17 October (7.00-8.30pm).

Nick will deliver a technical discus session and share his insight of the event to athletes from City of Glasgow AC’s throws group.

The Question and Answer session which follows will give athletes and coaches with an opportunity to ask Nick about his athlete journey to date which includes representation at the 2017 World Championships, 2014 Commonwealth Games and European U20 and NCAA medals.

We have limited availability for UKA Licenced Coaches who want to attend as part of their personal development. Coaches should contact Coaching and Throws Development Co-ordinator Alison Grey for more info and to confirm attendance, please.

Andy Butchart leads Central AC home at Cumbernauld three years ago (photo by Bobby Gavin)

Olympian and Scottish 5000m Record holder Andy Butchart pledged to ‘get back to my grassroots’ a few weeks ago after his latest British title triumph on the track.

And we understand Andy will indeed pull on a Central AC vest again for the East League cross country match at Stirling University on Saturday 18 October.

Butchart is also listed in the Central AC Senior Men’s names for the Lindsays National XC Relays at Cumbernauld the following week.

The East League stages three matches each season, starting at Stirling. The two other dates are November 23 at Broxburn and January 18 at Livingston.

Jemma Reekie has been short-listed by European Athletics for a top award.

The young Scot won a superb 800m/1500m double gold at the European U23 Champs this season and also brought down her PBs as well as making the IAAF World champs.

Jemma is nominated for the European Athletics Rising Star award and you can vote for her via their social media channels. Simply Retweet the European Athletics tweet or go onto their Facebook page and like or share their post on the Kilbarchan AAC athlete.

British Athletics have issued their selection policy for the 2019 European Cross Country Championships and it available to view via this link.

The annual Championships will take place in Lisbon, Portugal on Sunday 8 December 2019.  As in recent years, trial races will be held within the British Cross Challenge event in Liverpool on Saturday 23 November.
