Scottish Officials land top awards from UK Athletics
We are very fortunate in athletics in Scotland to be served by some fantastic, highly committed scottishathletics Officials.
Ron Morrison is undoubtedly one of those and there was proof of that at Silverknowes last Friday evening.
Ron was recently named by UK Athletics as their Endurance Official of the Year and John Rodger, convenor of our Road Running and Cross Country Commission, was delighted to present the trophy at the Scottish 5K Champs.
It was a richly deserved acknowledgement for the Fife AC coach and Official ‘legend’ and, in truth, only under-lined what many in Scotland already knew!
As Clare Barr, no stranger to officiating and athletics admin herself, aptly put in on our Facebook page: ‘What Ron doesn’t know about athletics isn’t worth knowing.’
Many congratulations to Ron and thanks, as ever, to all our Officials for their huge contribution to our sport across a whole range of disciplines through the year.

All at scottishathletics were saddened over the weekend to learn of the passing Margaret Edgar.
Margaret was a former Official and athletics administrator in Scotland, helping out in a number of volunteer roles over many years.
Margaret was involved in athletics in various roles for many years with her local club Nith Valley AC (now Nithsdale AC)in Dumfries as a Coach, Team Manager, Field Official and a variety of Admin duties.
Margaret was also a member of the SWAAA Executive Committee (pre scottishathletics) taking on many roles including Team Manager with National teams and organising West District Championships.
It was as a Team Manager where she had a huge impact on the lives of many athletes, a more caring person one could not meet.
Margaret continued her involvement with athletics after her daughters Hazel and Angela had emigrated to Australia and in recent years she still turned up at club training nights. Her involvement declined in recent years as she spent half the year in Australia with her growing family but she still maintained an interest.
Margaret was calm, dedicated and a font of knowledge, all of which she was happy to share. She will be sadly missed by all those involved with her whether athlete, coach or Official.
Funeral details are as follows:
Wednesday 15 May at 11am
Tinwald Church just outside Dumfries DG1 3PL. Thereafter at Roucan Loch Crematorium
scottishathletics sends deepest condolences to Margaret’s family and her many friends in athletics.
